A checklist for approving a mattress fabric sample
Sample approval is the moment an agreement becomes a reference. This checklist makes that moment clearer.
An approved sample is not just a nice piece of cloth. It is the reference every future batch will be measured against. The more precise the approval, the fewer disagreements later.
1 — Colour under more than one light
Look at the sample under factory light, daylight and — if you can — showroom light. A colour that matches under one source can shift under another.
2 — Pattern across a large enough area
A small swatch will not show the repeat. Ask for enough area to see at least one full cycle, so you know how it will read across a whole mattress panel.
3 — Weight and width in writing
Record the weight (GSM) and the width as part of the approval, not verbally. Those two numbers are what make later comparison and review possible.
4 — How it behaves in production
Actually run the sample: cut it, sew it, watch the edge, and see how it tensions over a surface. A fabric that looks excellent in the hand can still need adjustment on the line.
5 — Keep two copies
Keep one signed and dated copy on your side and leave one with the supplier. If a future batch is ever questioned, both parties are holding the same reference.
